Whole Lotta 500 Benz for $22k

I've got a car-guy uncle by marriage—let's call him "Brillo," because that's what my aunt (his sister-in-law) calls him—who introduced me to the joys of V8 power 20 years ago in his first-generation Infiniti Q45...and now drives a 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL500, black like mine, with about 140,000 miles on it, roughly 100k of which have come on his watch.

In other words, the man loves him some 500 Benz, which is why I immediately sent this ad his way.

Think about what's on offer here. The car has under 10,000 miles on it, one owner, with all service records available from the famously fancy Fletcher Jones dealership in Newport Beach. It's got a 302-horsepower V8, a kickass Bose stereo, a hunger for high speeds, a spiritual connection with 2Pac, and so forth and so on. It comes with all four original keys, which is virtually unheard-of for a used R129 SL (mine came with one).

And it costs about as much as...this!

And it's actually a bit cheaper than...this!

And it's an inconceivable six grand cheaper than...this!

I'm talking base models for all of these, by the way. You want to add any luxuries or whatever, bring more moneybags.

Alas, my man Brillo decided to hold out for an R230 rather than turn back the clock with another R129.

Which means that someone else out there is going to plunk down twenty grand or so and get a whole lotta 500 Benz in return.
